Interesting that Bruno Mars, after being convicted of cocaine possession not only escaped jail but  also apparently will have no criminal record from the offence.

Despite being found guilty and having to do community service he will have a clean record.

This clean record is important for an entertainer who wishes to work internationally.  Criminal convictions particularly those for things like drug possession make it difficult if not impossible to visit certain countries like Japan which has in theory a "drug conviction= no visa" policy.

This however wouldn't work if he were a citizen of another country wanting to work in the US as the US requires visa applicants to declare arrests and cautions as well as convictions and while having convictions doesn't preclude having a US visa it makes the process more convoluted.
