Least glamorous job in a band - look at the bloke out of spinal tap! Keyboards fall into two camps the traditional/retro/old school and the modern hi tech.

Old School - Hammond organs, only a B3 is acceptable, although these are 4 or 5 times more jimmysmithjazzlegend.jpgexpensive than others. Bear in mind with old Hammond organs they are all 40 odd years old and they do go wrong a lot - so beware of any cheap ones. You do find ex-church bargains but remember those repair bills. If you do find one don't forget to make the 'Jimmy Smith' sound you'll need a Leslie (rotary speaker) - if you don't know who he was, check him out as he defined the organ!

To go with your B3 Hammond you'll want an electric piano which means a Fender Rhodes or Wurlitzer, both have different sounds and advocates. Personally we think you can't beat a red Wurlitzer! Price range anything from a grand upwards.... again if it you go for an old one remember they are likely to go wrong. Other old organs such as Vox Continentals, Far Fisa and other Italian makes have their fans. If you are an old synth fan you'll probably beyond help but here are a few websites..
