Hi, we are a new band about to set out on a tour of Barfly type venues, we would like to take with us in ear monitors for the lead singer and drummer can you advise? We do have some budget for it, but not much!
Hi There, thanks for the question hope you find this useful

1. Transmitter and beltpack receiver for singer. As budget is tight I would suggest LD MEI 1000, see attachment, despite the low price, around £280.00 inc vat they give pretty good results. Obviously they aren’t as good as the upmarket Shures and Sennheisers they are at least as good as the budget Shures which go for around £500.00
2 Transmitter and wired headphones for drummer. No need for wireless! I would suggest the same LD transmitter with wired headphones Sennheiser HD 25s around £120.00 are as good as any
3 Some means of driving them; In many of the venues the band are playing the monitors will be run from front of house on 2 mixes, 1 for drums, 1 for everything else, so the in ears will end up with the same (mono) mix that is coming out of the monitor speakers. Which is less than ideal. Ideally for 2 systems 4 sends are needed, if the venue has a separate monitor mix with spare sends this won’t be a problem and they will be used to patching in iems. If budget allows I would take along a small monitor desk just for the bands iems such as the Allen & Heath Mixwizard Monitor, see attachment, which costs around £1500.00 which would mean that they got to use the iems every night with something like the right mix coming out of them! This is also about the smallest monitor desk on the market that I am aware of.
With this set up you could add systems for the rest of the band as and when budget allowed
To sum up; Eqpt LD MEI 1000 system x 1 approx £280.00 LD MEI 1000 transmitter x 1 approx £200.00 Sennheiser HD25 headphones approx £120.00 Allen & Heath Mixwizard Monitor, approx £1500.00 Cases and cabling, approx £500.00
