.....the backbone of having a smooth tour
So you got your band a gig at the local Hand & Racket at Gravesend a week on Friday and you want to make sure it all goes super smoothly... so what you now need to do is ADVANCE THE SHOW which means arranging with the venue or whoever is putting on the show all the timings, equipment, all the things that are needed to make it happen.
This is just the same whether it’s you the ‘Snotty Throttlers!” or U2. It’s a good idea to have an Advance Sheet which is a list of all the things you need (ie, capacity, show timings, doors, tech spec – sound system, lighting system, how many stairs you have to carry your equipment up or down etc) and can be sent to the whoever is running the show at the venue, so they can fill it in and send it back to you. Note, they never do send it back but at least when you call you can go over it with them and get the information required. Please see sample Advance Sheet and modify to your needs.
If you do your advancing thoroughly it will save you lots of grief on the day of the gig, you will know where you can and cannot park, whether or not you are going to be fed, showering facilities, have a dressing room etc. – so hopefully there will be no surprises when you get there.
From your advance sheets you can produce your itinerary which tells all your band and crew members what each day holds in store and who has to be where and at what time!
